Effective September 1, 2007 the wage for journeymen in the occupation is $30.79 per hour plus benefits. First year apprentices start at 60% of the journeyman wage. Ironworkers receive pension benefits, annuities, as well as family health and life insurance policies. An ironworker's membership allows a member to work in different local unions throughout the United States and Canada at wages between $16 and $30 per hour plus benefits. Once an apprentice has completed their apprenticeship, they may apply for work in any local needing journeymen.
